Nissan Micra vs Ford KA+

If you’re looking for a sub-compact car, then the Nissan Micra and Ford KA are two excellent options. The Nissan Micra is available at Toomey Motor Village in Basildon, Essex, where our expert team can talk you through your choices.

Nissan Micra

The fifth-generation Nissan Micra is a capable, five-door supermini. It has larger dimensions than before, bringing it closer in size to the Ford Fiesta. An up-to-date exterior features blacked-out rear posts and hidden door handles. The interior is deceptively spacious – the 300-litre capacity boot rises to 1,004 litres when you drop the 60/40 split folding seats all the way down.

Five trim levels are available, and even the entry-level Visia is well-equipped. It gets Bluetooth, lane-departure warning, autonomous emergency braking and more. Start/stop is added for Visia+ models, while Acenta has alloy wheels, a seven-inch touchscreen and smartphone connectivity. N-Connecta features heated mirrors, while the range-topping Tekna has a high-end Bose sound system and rear-view camera.

As for performance, the Micra now has a choice of two engines – there’s a 0.9-litre turbo three-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre diesel, both with five-speed manual gearboxes. The petrol hits 60mph in under 12 seconds, while the diesel reaches it in around 11.9 seconds. The latter is also highly economical, achieving up to 88mpg.

Ford KA+

The fun-loving Ford KA+ is as spacious as it is economical. The latest 2017 model has the same sporty attitude and energetic design for which it’s known, yet provides more state-of-the-art technology to enhance the driving experience. Enjoy extra comfort with options such as heated seats and features like MyKey, which enables you to tailor your car’s settings.

There are a variety of trims to choose from, including the standard Studio trim with additions on the Zetec, or you can opt for special Black Edition and White Edition models.

As standard, drivers of the new KA+ can enjoy new front fog light daytime running lights for presence on the road, as well as convenient driving features like cruise control and speed limiter, Hill Start Assist, and improved traction control. Electronic power-assisted steering (EPAS) enables easier parking and only operates when needed. With rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring system to boot, manoeuvring the KA+ is simplicity itself.

The KA+ Zetec comes with alloy wheels and Ford SYNC – connect your phone with Bluetooth to enjoy hands-free controls for music, calls and text messages. Drivers can enjoy the latest tunes on the KA+ Studio too, with AM/FM radio, MyFord Dock, and a USB connector.

This car comes with a four-cylinder 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine, available in 69bhp or 84bhp. It has a five-speed manual gearbox and gear shift indicator that tells you when to change gear. Not only does this ease your driving, but it also saves you fuel. Finally, with a fuel economy of 114g/km of CO2 emissions, the KA+ is a very economical choice.
