MG3 supermini gets an efficiency boost for 2016

MG has made a range of tweaks to its MG3’s powertrain to keep the model competitive in the supermini class.

The uprated vehicle is on sale today with start/stop technology now a feature of its 1.5-litre petrol engine. The unit’s 105bhp and 137Nm of torque remain unchanged, but emissions fall from 136g/km to 124g/km. Efficiency also improves to bring the car closer to its rivals.

MG hasn’t limited the changes to the engine bay. It has also refreshed the chrome front grille to give the car’s face a bolder, sportier edge. Buyers of brand new versions can also now select from more colour combinations including contrasting roof and body shades. These changes have seen slight price rises for all but the entry-level 3Time model which remains at less than £9,000.

The MG3 is the smaller sibling to MG’s MG6 hatchback and competes against the likes of the Suzuki Swift as a highly affordable supermini. Four different models and a wide selection of personalisation options allow buyers to add a custom finish to their purchase. The graphic packs are especially memorable, with the option to add a Union Jack on the roof, among others.
