With the production of the Sandero Stepway, Dacia has managed to combine the style of an SUV with all of the practicality provided by a family hatchback. The raised ride height of this "mini-MPV" gives it a commanding road presence and increased visibility on all journeys. Available as the standard Sandero Stepway, as well as the Ambient and Lauréate specifications, this is a vehicle that makes off-road travel as smooth and simple as city travel.
Height isn't the only physical feature of the Sandero Stepway which commands attention. Black wheel-arch extensions, side sills and front and rear scuff plates underline its robust nature, while 16" design wheels and satin chrome roof bars add a dash of sophistication. Motorists can also customise the exterior through four optional metallic colours.
A similarly decorative function is carried out by the chrome highlights which decorate the interior of the Sandero Stepway; air vent surrounds, instrument dial surrounds and steering wheel logo surround all feature this trim. The central console surround and steering wheel lower insert are decorated in Graphite, and the upholstery is dark carbon Stepway cloth. Additional features on higher trim levels add multimedia functions, through the radio with CD player and MP3 CD reader with fingertip controls, which broadcasts through two front speakers. There is also AUX input and USB connection for MP3 players, and Bluetooth® connectivity for in-cabin telephony.
Motorists can choose between a TCe90 petrol and dCi90 diesel engine. Both offer similar performance, with the 0-62mph acceleration figure of the 0.9 litre petrol unit coming in at 11.1 seconds - slightly quicker than the 11.8 seconds recorded in models fitted with the 1.5 litre diesel motor. The latter, however, comes out on top regarding fuel consumption and CO2 emissions - it achieves 70.6mpg (combined), and 105g/km respectively. The petrol engine, however, is only a little less economical and environmentally friendly, returning 52.3mpg and 124g/km.
Airbags include driver, front passenger and front side airbags, with deactivation function available on the passenger side. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) help control the vehicle in dangerous situations, aided by Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction control. ISOFIX points for child seats are included in both outer rear seats, to simplify the installation process.
