From Citroën, the DS3 is a car in which "every line is justified by a function", as stated by Citroën's Styling Manager, Mark Lloyd. Functional design is a high priority for the DS3, both inside and out; motorists can experience a premier level of technology and comfort during their drive experience. Created to be the antithesis of conservative generic design, the DS3 provides the maximum amount of freedom for individual expression, with a visual style that is instantly iconic.
With a dynamic sense of potential, even while parked, the DS3 has been crafted into a series of inspiring shapes and design surfaces. The profile of the vehicle contrasts its robust and reliable nature with a smooth and refined design language, in order to create surprises present at any angle. The 'shark fin' B-pillar integrates itself towards the floating roofline, and the LED headlights sit on either side of the lower grille to create a road presence that demands attention. Citroën offers 11 body colour choices and four for the floating roof panel, allowing motorists to customise their vehicle to any level that they desire.
High-quality materials form the interior, including brushed metal, polished chrome, and leather upholstery. The interior follows the smooth design of the exterior, with the overall shape of design and visual highlights creating a sophisticated atmosphere. Multimedia functions are provided by the RDS radio/MP3 and CD player, and satellite navigation systems come by way of the seven-inch 16:9 screen. Citroën's Connecting Box is also included on selected models, giving occupants USB functionality as well as phone-charging capability.
The DS3 can be powered by a variety of four petrol engines and two diesel units. For drivers wishing to back up the sporty looks of the model with blistering pace, the best option is the 1.6 litre 165hp petrol engines available with the DSire Plus and DSport Plus specifications, which can push the model from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and to a maximum speed of 135mph. Meanwhile both diesel engines (themselves providing an excellent level of performance) return a combined fuel consumption of 78.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 95g/km.
Citroën customers are given peace of mind by the five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, which has been awarded to the DS3. Safety functions that have won the car this award include the interior airbags, the cruise control with speed limiter, and the driving safety assist systems. These include ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Braking Assistance (EBA), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
